Post part time courses in textiles
HI Everyone

I've just taken part in 3 exhibitions and have been inundated with requests for workshops and part time courses in experimental stitched textile techniques etc. Does anyone know of any in the Bristol, Bath area.
One idea was to form a series of meetings in galleries/ coffee shops, similar to the Stitch & Bitch knitting groups, where interested people could get together and talk textiles and stitch together.
Anyone interested in helping set this up.
Perhaps it should be a Tea & Textiles event first to assess the interest, as I have found a venue., but open it to all not just TFSW members.

Hi Liz. I don't know about Bath & Bristol area as I live in south Wales but Herefordshire College of Technology run C&G courses 7112 Creative Techniques including Embroidery (hand and machine) and Textile Decoration among other textiles skills. http://www.hct.ac.uk (Hurry! not many places each year!)
Malvern Hills College also run C7G courses and day and summer school workshops. http://www.evesham.ac.uk
Have people tried local Embroiderers Guild for workshops?

Thanks Elizabeth

The courses people are enquring about are the more leisure type courses, one day etc with no qualification at the end. There are a few C& G courses in our area, but it's more what to do after this course or design based, techniqie based short courses they seem to be after.
I've always directed them towards embroiderers guilds but again they often don't want to commit to that.
There seems to be a distinct lack of short courses on offer to the general public. Perhaps that is because there is a lack of people willing to teach them or a lack of suitable venues.

The courses at Ledbury are run by Angie Hughes. After City and Guilds she completed the H.N.C. Stitched Textiles at Gloscat. I believe she also runs a Master Class of some sort.
Her web site is angiehughes.com and there is also a site for the art place ledburyartplace.com
Nice lady

Watching this post with interest. Seems to be very little on offer in the East Cornwall-Plymouth-Exeter axis or am I simply unaware! Short courses can be a life blood, rejuvenating. Please let TFSW know of any workshops, etc.in this area.

Post Re: part time courses in textiles
Hi - after recently encountering a similar problem, I set up an informal monthly workshop group for spinners, dyers and weavers in Bristol, and found myself totally inundated with potential members, some from as far away as North Devon. So much so we had to close the doors and restrict numbers.

There surely must be a call for evening classes, and Saturday workshops for all kinds of crafts I would have thoughts - easily accessible and affordable is the key.

Best wishes
Shani

I've been in contact with Dionne Swift textile artist/tutor who is willing to offer workshops (devore, collagraphic printing etc.) in the South West depending on responses. Last year she ran workshops in Totnes, Devon. Please visit her website. I'm keen - any others?

I would be interested in learning collagraphic printing.
